I am shooting a small auto and a large revolver and my groups are to the left on both,I have to adjust the sight all the way over to get it close.now that I have it adjusted all the way over I have to twist my wrist a little to get the sights lined up,this is something that I have to concentrate on and is uncomfortable. Whats my problem? Both guns are concidered quality guns.
If you are right handed, then I would say you are pushing in anticipation of recoil. Have someone stand over your shoulder and watch your squeeze on the trigger. Maybe even video yourself from the open side, you may see a flaw in your form or where the glitch is.
I am right handed, and have noticed that I want to aim with my left eye.I force myself to use the right eye, while keeping the left closed. But I have also noticed pushing the auto a little while pulling the trigger, for the large revolver I use a firm rest. Please fix me.
Praire Calls sounds like he might have it . My hunting buddy has the same problem and had to learn to shoot left handed . I know there is a simple test you can do that will determine if you are ,I just can't think of how it goes ,maybe someone else can help .
One test that has been purported to show "eye dominance" is as follows:
1) With both eyes open, look at an object in the distance. 2) Raise a finger and line it up so that your finger is overlapping the object. 3) Now close one eye. If it looks like your finger "jumped" (it is no longer lined up with the object), then the eye you closed is "dominant."
This test works because your two eyes have a slightly different perspective, and the "dominant" eye was used to line up your finger.
It is probably the combination of your grip and trigger pull. I have the same problem with automatics, low and left. There is a really good correction target out there for use with handguns. You shoot at the center, then read the details on where you hit to see what adjustments to grip and trigger control should help. I am at work so I don't have my bookmarks from home available. When I get home I'll post the link, but you should be able to find it easily with a Google search for- "correction target" handgun. Using this tool really helped me see what I was doing wrong. Have fun practicing!
