How well do the new WSM rifles feed.I was thinking of getting the new Remington XCR stainless in 270 wsm. However, I am a little conserned, because I have a 7mm WSM in browning stalker that is only one year old, and it feeds like crap. The first shot when fed slow is ok, but if you try to work the bolt fast for a secondd shot, its all over it will jam EVERY single time. It has to be cycled really really slow. I was wondering if anyone else was haveing this problem. How are youre wsm's cycleing and what brand rifle is it in?? Thanks for any help.

Hey Huntnoakie You sure got that right. Me and a friend both recently bought abolt stalkers, and both of us wish like heck we hadnt. It was a very expensive learning experience!! I would have stuck with my Remingtons, but they didnt chamber in the WSM when I got the browning.
I have an Abolt Varmint stalker in .243WSSM and have been looking pretty closely at the feeding of shells. The feeding problems seem to be related to the clip from what I can see. I am not sure if it is the spring pressure of a full clip but when I first started feeding it, the first shell was the one that would seem to give the most resistance. I kept running shells through it for about a half hour and it was working much better after that. I do know when compared to a Rem. the browning has a much tighter tolerance to the point that to me the Rem seems sloppy. In fact the Rems seem sloppy compared to most of the bolt actions out there to me. But there is no hanging up of shells in the gun. I am going to take a fine file to the underside of the cartridge retainer on the clip and see if that smooths the feeding some more but right now it feeds pretty good IMO.If anything it feeds better fast than slow.
With the WSM's, are you finding damage to the cartridges from feeding improperly? If so I would like to see some pictures of the damage. From that it would be pretty easy to diagnose the problem.
I have a Browning A bolt II in 270 wsm and it cycles smooth everytime without jamming. A friend with the same gun in SS and a boss hasn't had any problems either. We are very pleased with our rifles. Maybe you have a burr in there somewhere, I know you shouldn't, but this happens. Good luck with whatever you choose. Also does your gun do this with all ammo? Maybe try a different brand.
