Well, next season if everything goes together right I'll have a custom flintlock for turkey hunting. I decided last yr. that I wanted to start doing all my hunting with flintlocks and have been trying to figure out how to get a smoothbore for gobblers. All the custom builders take at least a yr. to get one built for you so I decided to try and build one from a kit. I finally found a builder who had the parts I wanted for my gun and ordered yesterday. I'm getting parts from Pecatonic Long Rifle Supply and they said the parts should be here in about 3wks. That will give me about 6mo. to try and figure out how to put it together. It's going to be an Early Virginia 20ga. smoothbore with 36" octagon to round barrel, No. 2 grade maple stock, Chambers large siler lock, single trigger, brass furniture and front and rear sights. I will have my work cut out for me trying to get good patterns out to 25yds. with a 20ga. cylinder bore...but that's what it's all about far as I'm concerned...and this setup will be as far as I go back. Next..when I can afford it I'm going to get a kit for flintlock long rifle and use it for deer and hogs.
Excellent choice, Hoyt! Pecatonica is a pleasure to deal with. Their parts are pure quality! Before I started building flintlocks, I bought a Blue Ridge rifle just to hunt turkeys with. I've killed 4 so far. Here's a picture of the first one...
That's some good looking guns you built..I just hope I can get mine together where it will shoot. Nice gobbler also..I killed this Osceola www.hunt101.com/img/127591.jpg last spring on some public land here in Central Fl. I used the T/C 12ga. with screw in chokes and even before I was successful with it I was already planning on how I would get a custom traditional flintlock. The T/C just didn't have any warmth to it. I'm concerned with the cylinder bore 20ga. having a good enough pattern out to about 25yds.+. Do you know anybody that jug chokes? I would like to have it done
That is one dandy bird, Hoyt! Congrats! Listen, if you run into a stone wall while building your gun, stop by a couple websites I visit regularly(If you don't already know about 'em.) www.americanlongrifles.com & www.muzzleloaderforum.com Both of these places are a wealth of knowledge! Unfortutnately, I don't know anything about jugging a barrel. I'll bet one of the members on those two websites do, though! BTW, can you hook me up with an Osceola some time?! ;D Rick

Rick..If they are gobblin I can tell you areas to go where you can hear them..can't guarantee y'all will hook up though. The public land I hunted last yr. had so much out of state success...there may not be room for everbody this yr.
