I prefer a 12 guage loaded with 3 inch magnum #2 steel on ducks and geese here in Montana. #2 is a little large for teal but I dont get to shoot alot of teal. I prefer autoloading shotguns and my Winchester Super X2 has never failed me. Just a place to start ;D
Its not true that blondes have more fun, it's just that they have such a short attention span, everything seems new and exciting!

Rem 870 Suoer mag, 12ga, mod choke #1s Fasteel 2-3/4" for ducks and first shot on decoying geese and 1s 3-1/2" for second and third shot on geese. MAin thing on the gun find one that feels right to you, if it don't feel right when you first pick it up just put it back and try again. Sometimes even the same brand and style of gun will each have a different feel to them. Good luck

I shoot a 870 express it is a great gun for a beginer but if i were buying a new one i would get a winchester super x 2 it is a nice semiauto with a smooth swing and loads for ducks i would shoot a #2 but for geese I like BB it has a little more knock down power
What is the climate like there? If you are hunting in a cold climate say around 35 to 10 degrees you might want a 3 1/2" magnum 12 guage and use steel 1's or BB's for ducks and "T" shot for geese. unless you are realy good on taking head shots.
During the winter cold weather both ducks and geese will have extra thick feathers over their down and it is like body armor against steel shot that is why you need to go with the larger size shot and loads. There are a lot of other nontoxic shot out there but it will cost ya ( 10 round box of Tungsten = 25 to 27 dollars)
I have always had problems on leading for the head. When I first started waterfowl hunting there was no nontoxic shot just lead ( I'm showing my age with that one ). And I was a very good shot. Then steel came out during the lead ban and it was bad. We thought we would have a better chance shooting frozen peas than the steel. And over the years the steel shot got better and I adjusted. Now there is everything except depleated Uranium!
I guess I am old and set in my ways but there is nothing better than a good Ol'wing shot. ;D
When the season comes back in ( in December ) I will make room for ya in my boat. ;D
My first bird gun is a Beretta Xtrema in Max 4 camo. Shoots 3.5's, absorbs recoil very nicely, and so far performs flawlessly. I think that the way a gun fits, is more important than brand name, and fancy features like, fiber optic sights and such.

I use a Benelli Nova 3.5" 12ga. For geese I use Hevi-shot 3.5" 1 3/4oz 2s or BB, Kent Impact 3.5" 2oz #1s and in steel, Kent FastSteel 3.5" BB (1550 fps) and Federal Speedshock 3.5" BB (1550 fps). For ducks I use Federal Speedshock 3" and 3.5" 3s (1550 fps). I also use and extended modified choke. The Nova is only $300 for black and $350 for camo, and it has a lot of good features.
