I know you guys get to listen to all of the modern bow hunters ask you questions. (I dont know if you enjoy it or not)
I want to join traditional bowhunting. The instictive shooting sounds awesome. Just letting the arrow fly and hits what you look at. But I know that takes years of practice to perfect; and I am willing to do that. I love challenges and I have patience.
what are some good recurve bows. I am LEFT HANDED and left eye dominant. I am 16.
I have seen a PSE Impala and thought that would be a great starting bow.
What arrows do you guys use? are wooden arrow difficult to keep staight?
carbon arrows would be cheating for traditional archery wouldn't it.
Behm, I went traditional about 12yrs ago. I started out w/a Hoyt Hunter 45lbs 25yrs ago, then went with the compound craze. I wanted more from my hunting/shooting experiences, so I switched back. Carbons are not "cheating" I only shot a few cedar arrows in my life, and used to use aluminum. Now I use carbons (wood-look). They fly great. Byron's book is great as is Asbel's. Asbel also has a video of the same name, and Ricky Welch has a few videos as well. I recommend all highly. To me "hunting accuracy" is being able to put a 5 shot group inside a pie plate at 30yds. I'm happy with a 4-5 inch group in the middle, but you can attain that kind of accuracy relatively quickly. DO NOT Overbow yourself. Pick a bow you can hold at full draw for 5 seconds without shaking. Then start close 7-10yds away from the target, and first perfect your form: Good steady bow arm, with a slight bend in your elbow Anchor (wherever it may be for you) Release (it should be a suprise, do not anticipate the shot) Follow through (watch the arrow all the way to the target. Good luck, and don't get frustrated. I think I was being honest with what we can expect as far as accuracy from traditional tackle. Some attain more, some a little less.

I got into a recurve 2 ways, 1 was the farm I had permission to hunt had a large amount of standing corn ...... Yep they lived in it and didn't come out. So after 3 or 4 times with deer crossing less than 10 yards in from AND NO CHANCE of a shot from the compound ... I bought a light (#45) recurve "for my wife to use" and ended up taking a nice little 8 point 3 days later at about 7 yards. My second is a take down that I carry as a back-up when I go on a trip as I have it set-up to use the same arrows as my coumpound so arrow flight is similar and I only have to worry about distance (getting a bit closer)
