ve got an AR-10 in 308 and would like to get some recommendations on what to top it off with.
The rifle is a stock DPMS except for a 2 stage drop in trigger.
I’m not sure what brand or weight bullet I’ll be shooting as I am new to the 308 arena. Whatever I shoot it will be bought, not hand loads. I don’t have time to load.
I have decent long range experience a little past 600 yards with pretty good consistently with my Rem 700 in 300 win mag.
To be realistic with my abilities, I’d like to focus the range on the 308 to around 800 yards, maybe 1000 if the rifle is capable.
I’m 44yo and my eyesight is starting to do what most mid 40’s guys eyes do. I mention this because my pistol shooting has needed refinement and more practice than it used too, so I’d like this to be considered when choosing a scope.
I want a REALLY GOOD scope and am not too concerned with price.
so, money being no concern, and your age and eye sight becoming issues...
NF 4-16 ATACR. I've had 2, loved both. I sold one and regretted it and the second is going on a custom nucleus action build. Great clarity and light transmission. solid ergonomics and a well thought out reticle, I've got a MIL-R but I would love to get the MIL-C version I got to shoot with at a match.
Or go really high end with something German. I'm thinking about a S&B PMII for myself but they also do a 3-20 that would rock on a 308 gasser.
I've used and liked the Steiner military 3-12, great clarity but dated design in reticle. also rather larger for only a 3-12, but typically they run about 1200 on the used market. the New Steiner military's are 3-15 and a bit smaller than the older 3-15s, but I havnt used one so.
US Optics makes decent stuff, I liked my 3-17 alot, I'd have kept it if the turrets hadn't been capped. great clarity, used that scope to reach out to a mile.

I've recently bought a very cute thermal scope from www.atncorp.com/thermal-scope-thor-hd website. Hunting has become more interesting and interactive with this device. I use the video recording feature and I have had no issues with the scope.
