Hi Mike, I use an 1100 and an 870 and have found that my 870 is one of the most durable, reliable and great patterning guns that I own. I have had it for many years and am hard on guns. It has never failed me yet. Rick
Don't have any 11-87 shotguns but I do have the model 1100 Rem in standard 12 ga ,12mag and 20 ga and two 870 wingmasters in both 12 and 20 ga. They have always worked great for me . In fact I shot my first 25 straight on the trap range with a model 1100 . Mike
Mike the Super mag takes both 3" and 3.5"12 ga. shells where the Magnum only takes 3" 12 ga. shells.

I have used a 11-87 SP 12 ga - 3 inch for yrs. In fact I leave my 3.5" Benelli just for ducks now.
It is all Matte finish - no need for camo - I bought a 21" cantelever barrel - added a Nikon Monarch Turkey Pro Scope and have beat the ever loving crap outa this gun. I don't even hardly take before season shots as it is dead on. I have whacked several turkeys on a dead run and dropped them in their tracks.
I use Winchester Supreme #4 and a Hasting Extended Trueky choke 0.663.
I see no need for the other expensive Hevi-shot as I easily have 55yds out of this gun if needed. My average is still 21 paces from where I sit. I like em up close to see the eyelashes!
To the butt stock I added a Neoprene Monte Carlo rest to help bring my eye in line with the scope. This is a BuckCreek add on.
And I just added a Mini-Cam camera mount and am looking forward to recording the Whack!

I have a 11-87 and it will probably be the only shotgun I ever own! Theres nothing you cant do with a 11-87, I have been using it for about 10 years and it has never jammed on me or let me down. Dad and I go to South Dakota every year and this gun goes through everything imaginable and still fires the nastiest pheasant and turkey loads made. Best hunting auto loader made if you ask me....

i have the 870 express super mag and it takes everything from 2.75"-3.5" loads.it shoots the 3" turkey loads about as well as the 3.5" as far as the pattern goes even though it has fewer shot.great turkey gun.that is all i use it for.the Remington 870 has been around for many years.in fact,i had my first when i was in high school back in '56.it was a 16ga with a 28" mod barrel that with the 2 3/4" shell which is all it would shoot, could take a squirrel from the tallest tree.likewise, the 1100 auto has been around about as long.both are very dependable and great guns.today, turkey guns are made by the choke tubes and modern loads on the market.
