Kids Hunt of a Life Time
HHH’s Involvement with this event . I placed notices on several website BB’s and e-mail several posters to contacts I have a cross the country. Also placed posters in several gun and sporting shops in the NY area with my address as point of contact. With this I was able to mail out 345 entries and out of the six young people drawn for this event I was responsible for three of the winners the one in Utah one in PA. and the one in NY. However this year they took on four more young people sponsored by different groups. The one in NY only lives ten miles from me the families funds were short so going anyway myself I loaded them all in my motor home and provided them transportation to Norwood NC.
The family was provided a motel room by the South Piedmont Branch of QDMA. All meals were provide to all of us as they had a kitchen set up in the nice tool barn at the Fork Farm facility . The kids received their 710 Savage with scope rifles and gear on arrival Friday . Friday afternoon were taking to a firing range on the farm. Saturday AM each was assigned to a guide and off to stands. Midday there was archery lessons to those interested, a tour of the farm with photo sessions of the group. Then the afternoon hunt took place and the fact that Fork Farm practices a QDMA program that allowed the kids to harvest only mature does on theses hunts. Out of the ten kids there were eight that were successful in harvesting a doe two of which were successful in both the AM. and PM. hunt.
The evening banquet included a fine meal a demonstration on duck carving. As each contestant was require to provide a essay on the most influencing person in their life contest and was judged by a college professor who also awarded a plaque to the winner. The young lady from NY. was the winner. Next was the surprise, a Bonus hunt for all ten. A South Alabama Turkey Hunt, a Bear-Deer Hunt in Michigan, a Swan Hunt in North Carolina, a Texas Deer Hunt, a Louisiana Duck Hunt, a Mississippi Deer Hunt, a South Carolina Deer Hunt, a Duck Hunt in Arkansas, a North Carolina Mountain Deer Hunt, and a Kentucky Deer Hunt. These hunts were all placed in unmarked envelopes on a table each kid was to select a envelope to determine which one of the bonus hunt they won. Also there was a drawing for a Savage 710, 25-06 rifle another for a bow.
Plans are already started to make this event even bigger and better for next year as the sponsors are really getting on this band wagon. Chris has already asked me to be part of this event next year. Definitely A Kids Hunt of a Life Time !!
