I am a high school student looking to fulfill my volunteer/communtiy service hours to gain acceptance into college. For the past almost 5 years now, I have been raising bobwhite quail, california quail, and ringneck pheasants, and releasing them into areas across the county I live in (about 300-500 birds a year). So far, I have started 3 fully self sustianing populations that grow and grow each year, and many areas have seen sharp inclines in gamebird populations due to my releases. Also, I have worked around my area to create habitat for them in which they now flourish. My question is could I considered my many hours of hard work to restore wild populations of gamebirds in my area as communtity service?

Chris, I'm not sure, but I would think so. I'm guessing that if they do, they will require a log book of all your work. Keep track of money and time invested, maybe take some pictures, things like that. Give them some proof of your good deeds.
"When a hunter is in a tree stand with high moral values and with the proper hunting ethics and richer for the experience, that hunter is 20 feet closer to God." Fred Bear
I would think that your deeds should count as community service. You should be prepared, however, to justify this argument by being able to discuss the benefit of increased quail (or other game birds) populations to the public.

Maybe talk with your local gun club, sportsmen club, etc.. and see if they will back you. You do the work, and they sign off on your hours. That way your hours are documented by a respectable organization and you have a witness to the great things you are doing. This way colleges or whoever will be less likely to doubt the things you did.
