A lot of folks are out this time of year hunting for antler sheds. A very useful tool in this endeavor is your hunting dog. We've only used retrievers, but I would suspect that any good trainable dog with a good nose would work. Like any dog its requires a little training, but like any good dog they learn fast. They can cover alot of ground quickly. Our experience has shown that dogs are pretty good at mult-tasking and finding sheds hasn't hindered their bird hunting abilities. Besides, its another good way to get your dog out and put it to work. Happy Hunting!
Hey, Its just good to get the pup out in the woods. If it finds something, its a bonus. Best time is to look shortly after they start shedding as there is still a blood smell on the sheds yet. Have fun ;D
my pup is too young and immature to be takin in the woods, the way she actin she will try to eat a copperhead, most sheds around here are gone within a week the rats eat the mineral in the shed. o yeah horns dont fall off, like rams and cows, goats they got horns becuase they dont shed them, deer, elk have antlers becuase they shed them. just thaught id tell you
When stalking and drawing on a buck, my heart beats faster than if I was to run 10 miles non stop!
