Hey guys I heard that if you eat garlic or onions, that it reacts to your body and creates a natural insect repellent? Is this true? I was hunting last evening and I got around 30 misqotoe bites, I even used DEET, and this electronic sound thingy but i sprayed hella lot of deet on me and I still got bitten. Is this fact or fiction on natural repellent? Im going out again and I dont want to get bitten. And hows this my father didnt get 1 bite, and he didnt even use DEET!! After the hunt we were talking to our buddy BIll for a short time because of all the misquotes! Can anyone tell me if this is true of false.
When stalking and drawing on a buck, my heart beats faster than if I was to run 10 miles non stop!
Anyone who hunts during warm seasons or for turkey needs to get a ThermaCell. It's a small unit about 7" long and 3" wide that has a small propane fuel cell and a treated pad that gets heated up and repels ALL insects. It's scent free and when you get to your stand you fire it up and lay it on the base of your stand near the tree. It will clear out every insect in a 20' radius from your stand. Great thing I've ever owned. I found 'em in S.C. when I was turkey huting but I thik now about every Wal-Mart store sells 'em. They come in camo or white. If you're not familiar with 'em you can go to www.mosquitorepellent.com/hunting/index.htm

Amen to the Thermacell, we here in Fla. can speek on behalf of this amazing little piece of equiptment. If you don't have one you are a fool cause once you start it up it takes 5-10 min. to get going and then you have a 15ft. perimeter of protection around you and you can physically see the mosquitos staying away.
Hunting = $200.00 per year Mosquito repellent= $20.00 per year Thermacell = PRICELESS
Garlic does help 'some' in repelling insects. But it's not a stand alone. Also it's not something you can load up on for a one time shot. It's a regular consumption of lots of garlic. I'd still use DEET. Just make sure you get a repellant that has enough percentage of DEET in it. Some barely have enough and not worth bothering with. About a 30% mix is what I've found effective.
That Thermacell sounds like exactly what I need fishing. Haven't had much problems with bugs deer hunting.
