I havent seen as many birds as last year , but i know they are out there....i've seen a few, still havent decided where i am going to hunt yet.....the hollar most likely, liking the challenge of the other hunters close by.... will go tommorrow a.m. to scout a lil....i still havent heard that first gobble yet....the birds that i have seen are in the same places as in the past, so i will pretty much know where they are, i just have to get one this season , lol.......... i'm hoping and prayin' for a safe and successful hunt for all of the hunters......another season full of good memories to come............
i woke up at 4:00 a.m., got out to the woods, thought i heard a gobble, but wasn't sure, i only heard it once,i did hear a cluckin' fool walking through the woods, other than that hen and some semi freash scratchin' and a a pile of poo, i didnt see or hear any birds.....Toby scouted seminole, he heard one , so i know they're gobblin'.......i did walk out to Branddee's tree and saw some sign there, followed tracks into the woods and found all the other sign i saw, lost the gobbler track, but it's a good area, and there's still time to scout alot more...i was walking out and i had 2 deer right in front of me, they didnt have a clue i was there, then i made a bleat sound and they stopped, walked a few feet, i'd do it again, finally after a few minutes they walked to the waters edge and disappeared.........went to breakfast with toby, shot my bow, came home and took a nap and here i am hours later, lol...........
went out again today.....nothing.......3/13/05...i scouted for about 6 hours, a lil scratchin here and there, but that's it........i'm getting worried,lol.......then i met Gail and went fishin' at the river.......
i hunted toso., the first day the powerline, the second day the beeline, and today was the lost arrow.heard nothing, saw nothing.....have salt lake this wed.thurs fri sat and sun....and seminole, i might hunt both, or let someone else hunt my permit at one of em....
rodney and dave pointed me in the right direction i really didnt think i would kill a bird, not knowing the land and the fact that he killed that nice gobbler form the same spot ... i was just happy to be where there were birds, lol...the first day i had 3 seperate hens come up, so i got some excitement ....i enoyed it so much, i decided to do it again....it was windy as can be this a.m., i called, thought i heard a gobble, but with the wind i couldnt make it out, so i decided to smoke a cigarette before the hunt really got started, i was thinking it was still a lil early before the real fun began, wrong....i hear turkeys from behind me so i turn my head,4 red heads at the waters edge i had to get the my face mask on, my glove and get my gun up they have crossed the water and are now coming through the fence, talking to my decoy...10-12 yds. from me i pick he biggest one out and he's right in front of me and he putts i panicked, i knew that he was too close, but i shot anyway , i dont know what i was thinking....at first when i saw red, i knew they were jakes just because all 4 of em were hanging out , so i said right then , i said no jakes, let em walk, but the first one had about 6-7 inch beard and the next thing i knew birds were going everywhere...he ran and stopped about 60 yds away, he was fine, the other 2 then hauled butt by me, which had real small beards, then the last one thought he was sly and decided to fly across the road, that's when i took the other shot....he flew onto the other side of the road where he died...they might of been spooked from the shooting , but at least he died quickly....i'm walking out with my bird, i was dying of heat , so i stopped to get my water, i hear one of the guys behind me, he was going to scare me, lol....you know he carried my gun out for me and took pics, how cool was that....i was thinking that i could take pics , but there wasnt anyone to take pics of me and the bird, then he appears rodney, lol....he heard me shooting, he saw me walk right by him, but i was in lala land....lol.....to me todays hunt wasnt the picture perfect hunt by any means, ruined my mature bird only streak i was on, kinda disapointing, because i reacted like a freak, lol.... but with all the help i got from the guys in the first place and then to have a fellow hunter help me walk out with my harvest touches my heart....thanks guys .....this hunt is the true essence of turkey hunting for sure.....will post pics sunday night.....oh, stats, lol...almost 5inches, almost 11 lbs, and almost a half in spurs.... 220.127.116.11
went to 3 lakes today with Fhh..he dropped me off and i headed in, it was almost light, i heard it, balalalallala, so i went to it, then i heard hens making a fuss and couldnt hear him, so i would have to slow down and wait for the next gobble, he would be farther away, every time i would get close, a hen would slow me down, finaly around 9_9:30 he stopped....loved the action.....not too sure about all them huge hog tracks i was seein' once the sun came up.........i did lose my favorite striker that Larry JUST sent me.....i had it , using it, went to call and it was GONE :'(i'll look again for it, but i covered some land today , so i just dont think the odds of finding it will be good.......
went to 3 lakes again.didnt hunt the oak hammock edge becauses soemone said" i think you should go furtjer", so i did, turns out there was a gobbler at the oaks , i'll try to get out there again this week, if not sat. for sure, i have that ding donged training that starts sun @wekiva......i hate it, took a turkey day away from me........
i hunted 3 lakes a few more times, had a great time, met erik from the roost, fhh and him were on his first turkey hunt, even though they didnt get one, they had a blast....great to see another turkey newcomer spooked some birds off the roost, learned alot about the area i was in..good thing about walking around season has ended........
