Well MommaLH and I went to camp last Tuesday morning thru Wednesday evening and the wheat and oat's we planted around our deer stand's has started coming up with all the rain we had the other day. I told MommaLH we need to take a camera next time we go so we can get some picture's of it.
The hog's have found it and lord they are already hitting it and the corn we have been putting out pretty hard. The hog's and deer are eatting around 300 lb's of corn a week, now if them corn fed sucker's will just come around with one of us in the stand's there will be a bunch of fresh pork in the freezer.
We also gave the squirrel's another try, we ended up with MommaLH getting two cat squirrel's with her 20 ga. and me backing her up with my ruger 10/22, I got one fox squirrel and I also shot out two cat squirrel's that we coundn't find ( I hate loosing game like that ).
This make's 21 on the season so far out of the same little piece of hardwood's, with 7 or 8 more seen.

Well opening weekend was a bust at camp, with the full moon and hot and dry condition's the deer just didn't move. There was 21 one of us hunting this weekend and only three shot's fired, all were doe's.
Late Sunday evening small thunder shower's started moving in and MommaLH had 6 Turkey Hen's, 1 Jake and 1 Gobbler feed up the road on the corn we had put out for the Deer and Hog's, She called me on the radio and was excited about having them feeding so close to her box stand. ;D
The rain has set in since Sunday evening and the Temp has started to fall, but now I have to be back at work. I have only 10 more day's of work then it's 3 week's of vacation........YES........ We can hardly wait.

Well it's been a long 2 1/2 week's of almost nonstop hunting for us, between hunting at our camp for the first week of my vacation which MommaLH saw a doe and a spike and me 0, but without it being a doe day and we don't shoot spike's on our club MommaLH had to let both deer walk.
We arrived in Texas on Thursday evening the 18th and we got to watch Shane's nephew in a football playoff game which I'm sad to say his team lost. To start our week of hunting we hunted Shane's property on Friday, we hunted a box stand at the start of the day with two deer seen, one that slipped in down wind that we saw but couldn't identify and a spike buck and so many fox squirrel's that made me wish I had brought my 22 rifle, we then still hunted the property to see if we could see one feeding. We called it a day at about 3:00pm. We went and got something to eat and met Shane at his house for the drive southwest to Mertzon where Shane's B-I-L and his family live's.
We were told NOT to shoot the first buck's we saw because there was some Big Buck's on the property and wait them out, but as it alway's happen's we saw some GREAT BUCK'S on the first morning all 8 point's but they were HUGE horned because of the great rain's they had this spring. We saw the biggest deer on this first hunt that we saw the whole trip, after the morning hunt I asked about the Big 8's we were seeing and Shane's B-I-L said if they were taking over and fighting the younger buck's that had potential for being SUPER deer in a year or two then to take them out. As we sat in the stand that evening we saw some very good young buck's that will be SUPER ONE'S in a few year's and an 8 point that MommaLH wanted to shoot so after watching him for about 20 minute's of him fighting the younger buck's I told MommaLH he would be a great one to start with. He scored 131 and 3/8, not bad for her first buck. Later in the evening - ok way later in the evening as shooting light was fading fast a buck came running in and with only a few second's to decide to shoot or not, I took the shot, him being a young 8, I guess he looked bigger in the later evening light. Shane's son Taner also took a Great 9 point across the road from where we were hunting. (Congrat's to Taner, his scored at 116 +)
On day two we hunted the same stand with some super 8's coming in along with about 10 Turkey's, that evening we hunted where Taner took his Great buck just to look at different country, but we only saw one small 8 being the biggest we saw that evening.
Day three found us all dead tired so we slept in and helped Shane's B-I-L work on a house trailer he was fixing up for his Dad (camp on the river), we then went and helped him fill a feeder on the back of the property where we saw a bunch of Quail and Shane's B-I-L said to take them if I wanted to, he handed me a single shot 20ga with only one shell and told me to have fun...lol I got out of the truck and was walking down a path and they all ran out into it and stopped and looked at me, well with only one shell I took my shot killing 8 with the one shell, when I got back to the truck they called me a liar till MommaLH counted them (ok now who's a good shot...lol). That evening we went back to the stand we hunted the first day, with a ton of doe's feeding but no buck's of any size, (here it come's again) till almost last light and here come's another nice 8 point running in and MommaLH said he wasn't as big or bigger than the one she had already took so I took my second deer of the Trip. With Irion County being a 2 buck county I was through.
On day 4 we went to Robert Lee where Shane's B-I-L's Dad has some other property (where the waterhose snake KILLING HAPPENED) we saw 5 buck's and 4 doe's that morning and a storm moved in and ran us home (ok the lighting did it...lol)
On day 5 I helped Shane's B-I-L's on the trailer and MommaLH hunted alone, she saw some nice buck's but none she wanted to shoot.
We saw enough Turkey's in the week we spent there that everyone would have slobbered on the ground, I videoed the entire week and I have some film that I just have to show Turk this spring at Nashville.
Sorry this was so long but the Whole story had to be told. I have never in my life saw so many deer and I hope to see them again( Hey Shane's B-I-L ......HINT HINT ). I know I left a ton of what happened the week we spent in Texas, but my finger's got sore typing all of this...lol
MommaLH's Buck again, scored 131 3/8
My first Texas buck, scored 105 5/8
My second Texas buck, scored 107 6/8
All three laying in the back of our truck.
And last but not least, a picture of a few of thr Rio's we saw.

Well we made it to Nashville and back, and we survived three day's and night's on limited sleep because there are so much to see and do. We got to meet a ton of people we get to talk to here on the differenty web site's.
We took to many picture's to put here but MommaLH put them on our web site. If you go look leave us a message.
I have never got to play with so many different sounding call's, from Box Call's, Slate's, Glass/Slate's, Wingbone's and carved Wingbone's and out of different thing's like Ivory, bone, wood and such. Oh by the way I left a lot of shocked Wingbone callmaker's with strange look's on their face's, I don't the sound's I got to come out was what they really sound like........
We can only hope they get over the shell shock before next year...........LMBO

Well my AR15 came in on April 13th, and I had a chance to take it out for a test spin while we were in Texas, while We were at the gun shop MommaLH found her a Walther P22 that she just couldn't live without.
Here's a picture of my new baby, it's an Olympic Arms AR15, It has a 16 inch free floating Heavy Barrel and a Samco forearm handle and a Samco retractable stock, it also came with a 30 round clip, so I bought two 20 round clip's to have to hunt with, it was all the gun shop had, it also came with a 30mm red dot scope, I have a Lighted 2.5 X 7 Swift I'm going to mount on it. The Predator's had better watch out because this baby will ROCK.
Here's a picture of MommaLH's Walther P22.
You got to LOVE a WOMAN that love's to shoot as much as you do..... even if she does get EXPENCIVE.........
Yeah I think I'll Keep her. My wife that is.........LMBO

Well we finally made it home after an exhausting 30 day, 4500 mile, 8 state circle. We have had the pleasure of hunting and visiting with a bunch of friend's and meeting a bunch of new one's.
A heart felt THANK YOU to Ken and his family and Ken's buddy Brad for having Marjie and I for a week of MOUNTAIN CLIMBING and working their butt's off trying to get Marjie a Ky Turkey. Also a Super THANK YOU to John Greenwood and his family for putting up with us and for John for teaching Marjie how to crawl up on a Gobbler and then having him duck the shot.
We also got to visit with Rick Tice and his daughter Addison in Knoxville Tn.
The story's are long so to keep from putting all of you asleep I'll shorten it the best I can.
Ken put us on so many Gobbling Turkey's that it just boggles the mind, but all were henned up, that is all but the one that Ken called straight up a cliff and and got a tree between himself and Marjie's gun barrel, and is I guess still alive and well as I type this. I did manage to get one very nice Ky Gobbler, A neighbor Lady of Ken's told us (after climbing those Ky mole hill's TWICE that morning) that there had been a Gobbler strutting and gobbling right next to the Truck (isn't like how it always is), to make a story short I got him as he tried to out run a couple of 3 inch Winchester Extended load's but didn't make it.
8.5 with beard rot, right spur 1", left spur 1".
We then made a mad dash down into Tenn. to give Marjie her first time ride around Cades Cove to see all the Deer and Turkey's (which were everywhere). We got to meet up with Rick and Addison for lunch before we headed back West to Visit John and his Family.
John only got to hunt with us one morning and the only Turkey we could get to answer was in a field that we couldn't slip up on. So he talked us into hunting the Land Between The Lake's, which I must say are some of the finest wood's I have ever hunted, but due to the weather or what ever happened we never heard a gobble in 4 day's hunting. John got off work early on Wednesday and found Marjie a sucker strutting in a field, so after they crawled across, up and down a creek they finally got into range only to have the batteries in Marjie's RED DOT QUIT so she had to try to see the bead's under the RED DOT'S MOUNT and then have him duck as Marjie shot at him. John thought he was toast and jumped up and started to him only to have him stick out his tongue and run like the DEVIL was after him........LMBO
Well as we were driving home Marjie called Shane (her ace in the hole) to see how the Turkey hunting in Texas was and Shane told her it was just as bad there as it seemed every where else, but after one night's sleep in OUR OWN BED we headed out to Texas to give it one last try. Well it started out pretty good for me and Shane we both got a Jake on the first morning's hunt (Which didn't set well with her) with his shot shane's season was over (that made his forth for the season). On the evening hunt I hunted close to where Shane took his Turkey and bush whacked my second Jake (I swore he had a LONNNNG BEARD) (This REALLY DIDN'T SET WELL WITH MARJIE). The following morning Marjie and I hunted together (after I had taken TWO TURKEY'S she wasn't going to let me out of her sight...LOL), well no Turkey's were seen or heard so we ended going back to camp and sleeping while it rained, after it stopped raining we slipped back out to the wood's and Marjie decided to hunt where Shane took his Turkey and I moved about 100 yard's and set up where I took my second Jake, (yeah you guessed it) I had just set down and was reaching for a smoke (because I figured the wood's needed time to settle down) and there stood a Turkey's RED HEAD looking at me, as he moved off I saw what I thought was a LONG BEARD but after the shot and I got to him (you got it........another Jake) I saw I need to start wearing my glasses while I'm Turkey hunting. Well needless to say for a day and a half after I took my Third Jake no Turkey's were seen or heard. On the last day of our hunt Marjie and I hit the wood's at 1:00 pm to see what we could scare up. Well she went and set where I had taken two of my Jake's and home steaded the spot, I went to where I took my first Jake and at 3:00 I had the largest herd of cow's come lay down around me (I got you.....you all thought I got my fourth Turkey...LMBO) so I headed back to camp. After Marjie had been gone so long and not taking any water to drink I decided to be a SWEETHEART and take her some Ice Water (yeah I thought to cool her off) and I heard a shot. At the shot I started toward where she was setting and and I stopped and went back to get my gun and I heard another shot, I thought MAN that sucker done got TWO of them. I got almost to where she should have been setting and I met her, She had a HUGE LONG BEARD on her shoulder and an even bigger SMILE on her face. She ended up having to shoot him twice and the picture isn't a pretty one that's for sure.
LH's 1st bird in TX.
LH's 2nd bird and friends
LH's 3rd bird
Marjie's Rio, 9.875 beard, Right spur .75, Left spur .875.
Ok I know I said I would keep it short but when your dealing with a woman that has rode about 3800 mile's at this time I had better tell it right.....and you should hear the long version.....LMBO
Well our Season is now over (yeah I worked 12 hour's first day back) and I ended up with 1 Eastern and 3 Rio's and MARJIE FINALLY GOT HER TURKEY...........THANK GOD FOR HUGE MIRACLE'S.
Thanks again everyone that made our Travels a ball to live through.
Ok for a private joke now.......... HEY SCOTT (Hunter9850)MARJIE GOT A TURKEY..................LMBO
