Couple of years ago my buddy went after them(I shot video) in west Texas. Tough hunt! We spotted a group about a mile away and could stalk no closer than about 800 yards. After waiting about half hour, the biggest ram came right towards us. (I think he saw us and was defending his ewes) My buddy shot him in the neck at 51 yards with his .270. It's all on video! They are tough, the 130 bullet only penatrated about 6 inches. Enough to damage the spine. However, it did not hit any bone. Use a stout bullet. Our guide said he had never seen on shot at under 250 yards, other than that one. They are very nervous. Good luck!
My most awesome hunt yet was free-range Aoudad - just this week - nothing fair chase about it - they have a definite advantage! Hunted two days in West Texas mountains, finally was able to get anywhere close to take a shot. No one with me thought I'd do it - boy, where they surprised - Using my 270WSM, with a crosswind even - took my Aoudad at 548 yards! Just got word it rough scored between 8th and 12th in the book. I wouldn't have cared if it was half that size - I was just so proud of the performance of my 270WSM! Hey - GilaMonster - where in West Texas did you guide for Aoudads?
I have caught alot of them ! A couple years ago , I was working for a animal broker in Junction ,TX .Would like to hunt them ,if I had time . I do know a ranch in south texas that has some really big ones. They have some 40" plus auodads ,and they are proud of them. About a $100.00 an inch.
This place has the most free ranging Aoudads I have ever seen. When I went two years ago we saw herd sizes of 200-300 that we could count. If they see you they don't stop running until they get 3 hills over. LOL!

I specialize in free range aoudad. I've put almost 100 clients on big sheep in West Texas and it is a hunt of a lifetime a 28" ram is very respectable despite what you hear about the 30'" mark. The rams we take are generally 27-32" and we kill a few over 32" every year but a 30" ram is about like taking a 170" whitetail free range. P.s. Hogslayer...where on earth is there a 40" Aoudad. I've never heard of such thing but I would sure like to see what one looks like and $100 an inch would be a heck of a deal!
