Has any one used 165gr bulllets on elk? If so what was your experience? I will be using Federal Premium ammo w/ Nosler's 165gr Solid Base bullets for the upcoming general elk season in Eastern OR. I will be tossing them out of a A-Bolt Medallion in .300 Win Mag. Left handed of course. Thanks

I agree the Partitiion, Trophy Bonded, Fail Safe's and such all have a rep as being good bullets for elk. I would recommend any one of them but my gun really likes the Solid Bases as far as accuracy goes. My understanding of the bullet is that it is basically styled like a ballistic tip except for the fact that the tip and core are of solid construction. I was just curious about performance becuse I believe this is the how the original Nosler bullets were designed and I hoped someone would remember how well they had performed. Hopefully after elk season I can draw my own conclusion on the Solid Base's performance. Again anyone who has used these please share your experience. Thanks
I have been using the 160 gr barnes XLC bullet in a 7MM mag an the 165 gr XFB in my 300 win and they work fine for elk . If I was using a jacketed bullet I would go with something bigger maybe , but this works for me .
Cimmeron Well so far the Barnes bullets have worked great for me . With the 300 I used to use a bigger bullet ,but got a deal on the 165 XFB bullets I shoot and have been shooting them every since . At $6.50 a box I was weak and bought 22 boxes at one time at a gun auction ( by weak I mean I can't resist a bargain) So far I have never found a bullet , they have all been pass throughs and the accuracy is great with the 300 win , the 7MM is good but not in the same ballpark in that respect . Just my experience with them /Mike
