Ran into a couple of friends last night who were talking about their property and the various things they were doing to improve the quality of the deer on it. This is their 8th year doing this and it looks like they've got a pretty scientific approach to all their desires and long range goals.
But MAN!! It sure is complicated and time consuming. Not to mention expensive. They had color charts and graphs and computer models and all kinds of fancy stuff showing where they started and where they were now and where they wanted to be in the near future and finally what long term goals they wanted to see recognized.
They had talked to all kinds of wildlife managers and they had all this in an ever increasing size book that's already as thick and long as a copy of "War and Peace"
So much of what they said was so far over my head I thought it would give me a nose bleed.
It seems you need to have a background in horticulture, agriculture, chemistry and biology just to figure out what you're talking about.
I know that there is a battle going on between those who look at the use of corn, and feed from bags as baiting, and feel it should remain illegal, while the planting of crops specific to wildlife enhancement is OK and should remain legal. That's not what this post is about and I don't want to start a Rowe over that dead horse because it's been beaten enough.
But after leaving my friends last night I had a thought. Maybe the reason why some guys just want to throw out corn and other feed from bags is because the other option is just so dad-gum hard to do!!! ;D ;D
