Well, I am pretty worn out today. I volunteered to help at a Wheelin' Sportsman even and they ran me to death. I have never been involved in anything like this before and I have to honestly say that it was an eye opener for me. Everyone involved had a great time today.
I saw a lot of neat stuff there, but the most amazing thing was the will of these young, and some older, people. I saw a homemade 10' deer stand that hooked onto the back rack of a 4-wheeler, complete with remote control lift.
Me and one of my buddies that was there just set and watched for about 45 minutes amazed. It is funny how we sit and complain about things we do or don't do and there was not one negative thing heard all day from these participants.
I was mainly there to help do some cooking. We had wild turkey cooked two ways, dove, three different fish and some deer. Most of the participants had not had wild game before and didn't really think much about it at first. We did a little begging for them to give it a shot and after they tried it, we noticed a couple of them in line again wanting some more. I think one buy ate 4 plates of fish and told us before that he had never had fish that he liked.lol
If anybody ever has a chance to attend one of these events they should give it a try. I know a couple of youngin's that I wish I would have brought along so that they could see what they take for granted every day.

I have been a member of Wheelin Sportsmen since before they became part of the NWTF. I have at least three events I attend every year. Two of the events are hunts that are put on for us. One by the Illinois DNR and one by a group of individuals that have some private hunting land and want to give something to the disabled. The private land hunt furnish a place to stay, food for three meals a day, and our hunting blinds along with assistants to help us while we hunt. This is a great thing for the disabled as there are many that would hunt if they only had help. These are bow hunts and are very enjoyable even if you don't get a deer. Good luck and God Bless. Norm

I was a little apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect. I gotta admit though, it was a blast. They had all kinds of things set up for the kids and adults. I am all ready looking forward to the next one.
Of course, seeing a girl for the first time in about 3 years that I spent all my younger days chasing didn't make it better at all. ;D
