In your honest opinion...which one would you buy...and why. I am looking at both and would like some input from fellow reloaders and shooters. What are some pet loads for both? I am looking at the HI POINT hand guns in both cals and just seeking info. Thanks
I think for most situations it would pretty much be "6 of one, or half dozen of the other", between the .40S&W and the .45ACP... And it would really depend mostly on personal preference... I like both cartridges, but all things being equal, and if my arm were twisted real hard, I would choose the .45ACP. Not for any reasons other than, "I just would"....... As for "pet loads", my favorite loading in the .40S&W is: 155 gr. Hornady XTP bullet, 7.1 gr. WAP(I don't think Winchester makes this powder any longer. I am just glad I bought several pounds before they discontuined it.)Winchester brass, and CCI primer, at about 1128 fps....... In .45ACP my favored loading is Winchester brass, CCI L.P. primer, 8.2 gr. of Unique, and a 185 gr. Speer Gold Dot, at about 1015 fps.... These loadings work well in my guns and are acceptably accurate........Now I had never really given much thought to the HI-POINT handguns, but, just the other day I read a gun review by Paul Scarlata, in the August issue of SHOOTING TIMES, entitled HI-POINT PISTOLS: in which he relates his testing with both the Model JCP in .40S&W, and the Model JHP in .45 ACP. He stated that he had no problems whatever with either pistol, and had to re-think his original opinion of them... He goes on to say, "I was suitably impressed with the reliability, accuracy, and handleing qualities displayed by both pistols. I think it would be fair to say that if you are in the market for an eminently affordable handgun that is capable of firing authoritative cartridges for home defence or informal plinking, a HI-POINT pistol may just fill the bill."
