i know i havent been on much but when i see the 17hmr i just have to post. i love mine . i have the remeington 597 toped with a berisca scope i have been playing with the power of them since i have two but for the thick wooded areas i have i am starting to like the 3x9x50. i have to say with a 20 gr honaday i whouldent think twice about shooting a yote with it. i have been using mine for chipmunks and i have to say i might be sick or twisted or just a plain ol red neck but there is some thing about a splatered chippy that just makes my day ;D ;D i learned the hard way with tree rats like some one eles sead as well. i ended a rabbits revenge on my beagel the other day and i have to say ol bugs couldent handel the round it was plain gutted out and what makes that a lil bit more sweet was he was running at top speed and i realy dident lead him all that much i put the cross about his neck area and sent it home trough the shoulder and out the back part the rib's. then only down side is the cost of the shell's compared to a 22 mag or l.r. i also found out that meatel siding on my barn dident like the round after i missed a shot on a chippy that was tearing my barn apart but i will say it left a big hole in it so i realy dont see why it wont work on yotes. oh and as for that missed chippy that was my foult i dident hit him but he later ment his buddies after a run in with my 22 and some cb bullets. i cant remember how much i paid for mine but i due know i had to float the barrale on it. i was going to buy the savage but at that time thay dident make it in a lefty so i passed it up and went for the auto. both the savage and the marlen and i beleave ruger all has pre floated barrel's and a better trigger. i whould recamend a heavy barrel thay seem to be just a bit more quiter and twice as accerate. good luck.
