Well, although I have hunted turkeys with 2 3/4" shells, I prefer 3" because it has more pellets and more powder. When I'm hunting turkeys, I want and need all the help I can get. :-[ Ducks and geese, too, but I don't hunt those much.
I use a rifle for anything besides wingshooting and turkeys. Either that or my bow.

I read somewhere that 2 3/4" shells have a higher velocity than 3 1/2" shells. I read that the powder charges are identical, just that the longer shells hold more shot. Checking with a few of the shotshell manufactures seemed to confirm this. Even with that, my shoulder seems to tell me different. I can shoot 2 3/4" shells all day long and it not bother me, but put in a 3 1/2" mag and half a dozen shots later my shoulder is throbbing. All in all, I prefer the 2 3/4" shells because they cost less, and are more recoil-friendly.
Our rights are like our muscles: Failure to exercise them will cause them to atrophy.
